Dante´s trip to Iceland - 1319 - Ferðaleið Dante til Íslands
Ferðalýsingin er fólgin í kafla XXVII í Hreinsunareldinum. Dante fer um Luni, Sarzane, Stura-dalinn, og Colle della Maddalena. Hann fer inn á umráðasvæði Frakkakonungs við Macon, fer um Reims og Amiens, um borð í skip í Strouanne og siglir til Dover. Þar fer hann áfram til Stirling kastala í Skotlandi, þaðan til Inverness þar sem hann fer á báti til Shetlandseyja og loks þaðan til Íslands.

Dante arrived at the leftmost point - crossing
the river Jokulfall. The distances are inferred from the poem and checked by
measurement on site.
Dante kemur yfir Jökulfallið þar sem er punkturinn lengst til vinstri.
Fjarlægðirnar eru lesnar út úr ljóðinu og staðfestar með mælingum á staðnum.

The significant points are the enter at the divine forrest having crossed the river, meeting Matelda at the brink of the canyon, walking with her around the bend of the canyon to the river where he sees Beatrice and crosses the river by Beatrice's magic. The point Tempio is inferred from the poem and therefore a cause for speculation.
The unit 1" = 1 second of longitude = 13,24 m.
Merkispunktar eru þar sem Dante kemur yfir ána, þar sem hann hittir Mateldu
við gilbrúnina og gengur með henni fyrir beygju gilsins uns hann sér
Beatrice á hinum bakkanu og hún töfrar hann til sín eftir botni árinnar. Punkturinn Tempio er tiltekinn í ljóðinu og ástæða
þess er umhugsunarefni.
Einingin 1" = 1 sekúnda lengdargráðu = 13,24 m.

No. 4 at The Spring which is the river Blue Creek entering the river Jokulfall exactly in the waterfall Gygjarfoss. (Gygjarfoss = Gygjar waterfall = the waterfall of Gygur, the goddess of the water.)

On top of the grassy slope there are two big and distinct stones.
Notice the straight lines in the face of the rock.
One is horizontal and then one perpendicular on each side.

It doesn't look big from the other side of the river but it really is quite
a seat.
Í miklum aðdrætti frá hinni hlið árinnar virðist sætið lítið ...
